Here is an amusing anecdote that came to life during our interview with several former Boston Shinkendo students.
Last summer, a newer student who was dealing with some work related issues could not afford a full Gi and Hakama, so he was training in sweats and t-shirt, which is fine for a new student.
However some of the more senior students appreciated his willingness to practice hard and remain above all the dojo drama constantly created by the instructor "little shafty".
So they agreed to get him a uniform. one of the students was on his way to Japan and offered to pick one up for him there.
A female student, (the one Shafty constantly claimed was disrespectful) mentioned to Shafty that they were getting the junior student a uniform.
Now most rational people would think the Sensei would see this as an honorable thing, students looking out for each other, but not shafty...
He starts "wigging out" claiming the the students were doing things behind his back and that the could afford to buy the student a Gi and Hakama because he was "Well Off"
The students were looking around at each others thinking
"What the hell is this guy talking about... well off?"
What does Shafty's personal finances have to do with the students helping out another person.
The students just shook their heads and after class that day went to a restaurant and laughed about the neurotic behavior they witnessed.
Problem is they had given the Gi and Hakama to the junior student who wore them next class.
YOU WANT TO LAUGH?
When the student showed up in uniform, Shafty played it off like he arranged the whole thing.
In essence trying to get the credit for a good deed done by others.
LOL
You should see the student TXT message discussion about this one... you would laugh for days!!!
